Welcome, and welcome back, to parents and students to another exciting year at Balvihar!!! We are off to a great start!

We started our first class with a brief introduction by the students and the teachers.  We discussed about class rules, discipline and about what to expect over the next academic year. We then spent some time talking about the definition of yoga, its benefits and history. We also talked about the differences between yoga asanas and other physical exercises.

We then did the following yoga sutras,

Pranayama (Yogic breathing practices) – We explained the proper execution of yogic breathing practice, as well as its rich physical benefits. Deep, full breaths increase blood circulation, which benefits the entire body. The increased blood flow brings fresh blood to all of the body’s organs, giving a renewed sense of energy.

Warm-ups: We did arm circles, squats and jumping jacks.

Asanas: We played a game called “Name that Yoga Pose” in class. I called out few of the many poses we had taught them and amazingly most of the students demonstrated the poses. KUDOS to KIDS...

  •            Tadasana – Mountain Pose
  •            Vriskshasana – Tree Pose

At the end of the class, we relaxed in Savasana (Corpse pose).

In addition to Asanas, through out this year we will be covering “Yama” and “Niyama” (the other essential aspects on the eight fold path).
