A merchant once sold his well to his neighbor.  The neighbor who was a farmer was very happy that his crops will have plenty of water.  But, the next day he was in for big surprise when the merchant said he would have to pay to use the water in the well.

Not knowing what to do, the farmer went Akbar for help.  Akbar summoned the merchant and asked why he was charging the farmer for the water.  The Merchant said, he had only sold the well not the water in the well.

Akbar, of course asked Birbal to solve the issue. Birbal called  the Merchant and told him that the merchant 24 hours to empty the well or he would have to pay rent for storing the water in the farmer’s well.

The merchant realized he had been outwitted, he apologized to the farmer for his behavior.
